S6 charity walk for British Heart Foundation

3 May 2024

This weekend, Charley Coulson and her fiancé Eli Denton will be walking 32 miles from Hillsborough to the Nabb Inn in Hucknall, Nottingham, to raise money and awareness for the British Heart Foundation – together with promoting the importance of learning CPR - in memory of her dad Garry Coulson, who sadly passed away on 2 October last year.

Garry was born in Sheffield and was a lifelong Wednesdayite. In 1989 he met Joy (Charley’s mum) on a charity bed push from The Masons Arms in Hucknall in his beloved S6 to raise money for anyone affected by the Hillsborough disaster. Several years later, in January 1997, they got married in Cyprus and moved there in 1998.

When Charley came along in February 2001, Garry became a stay-at-home dad. He worshipped the ground that she walked on and took a lot of pride in looking after her. He said many times it is the hardest job that he has ever had, but the most rewarding.

They became inseparable and to Charley, Garry was her hero. They were more than just father and daughter, they were best friends too. It was the same for Garry and Eli after Charley met Eli, who became a much-loved part of the family.

Garry suffered from a couple of heart conditions and sadly passed away, far too early, as a result of them. Charley is a Level 3 First Aider and had to conduct CPR on both her Dad and Grandpa in an attempt to save them.

With all the health conditions that Garry suffered towards the end, there were several things that Charley had to do for him which she was only able to do through the knowledge she had gained from the First Aid course she attended.

Therefore, as well as commemorating her Dad, Charley and Eli want to give their support to the British Heart Foundation for all of the amazing work that they do and decided that closing the loop as a follow- on from the charity walk that Garry and Joy started would be a fitting tribute, as well as raising much- needed funds for the charity.

The British Heart Foundation offers free online training with the RevivR app which takes only 15 minutes to learn CPR, all that is needed is a cushion and a mobile phone, so why not be ready for the day that it may happen to you, by taking the course HERE

If you can spare a little money and would like to donate to this fantastic charity, no matter how small, your donation will be greatly appreciated. You can do so by clicking HERE. All proceeds will go directly to the British Heart Foundation charity.

Thank you!
