Sheffield Wednesday sign Fernando Forestieri

29 August 2015

The Owls have signed Fernando Forestieri for an undisclosed fee from Premier League side Watford.

The gifted forward has signed a four-year contract at Hillsborough.

He arrives at Hillsborough ahead of the international break and will be eligible for Wednesday’s trip to Burnley on Saturday 12 September.

Crowd favourite Forestieri played a significant role in Watford’s promotion to the Premier League last season, featuring 26 times for the Hornets.

He originally signed on loan from Serie A side Udinese ahead of the 2012/13 campaign before penning a permanent contract in January 2013 of that season.

The sheer skill of the Italian Under-21 star soon saw Forestieri hit the spot in Hertfordshire and he has maintained cult hero status ever since.

Argentinian by birth, he moved to Italy aged just 16 and assumed Italian nationality.

Forestieri built up his experience with loan spells at Siena, Vicenza, Malaga, Empoli and Bari either side of joining Udinese.

He will wear shirt number 45 for the duration of his stay at Hillsborough.
