Fight until the last whistle of the season

2 May 2024

One point is the requirement to retain Championship status – but Bambo Diaby insists his side will be aiming for all three as we reach a tense climax of the campaign.

The Owls travel to Sunderland on Saturday in the box seat, which is where the towering central defender wants to stay.

Diaby, though, is taking nothing for granted as Wednesday look to complete the great escape on Wearside.

He said: “We know it is one point but the first thing is to play in the same direction and aim for the win.

“First we try to get the clean sheet, that gives you one point, then try to score and if you achieve both, you get all three.

“We are confident we can reach our achievement, no-one in the dressing room has ever thought we would be relegated.

“Games can change very quickly in the Championship and we must focus from the first moment to the last.”

Despite feeling the after effects of a broken nose sustained during the vital recent win at Blackburn, Diaby is available for selection this weekend and champing at the bit.

He explained: “It still hurts a little but much better now. It doesn’t hurt so much when you are winning! You only feel the pain when you get home!

“This is the mindset we have, we have a winning mentality and we will do all it takes to achieve our goals. Every one of the boys wants to play.

“And when it is over, we all want to say ‘we did it’. A lot of people had given up on Sheffield Wednesday but no-one inside this team and we will fight for everything until the last whistle of the season.”
