Manager and captain earn Sheffield Star awards

30 April 2024

The annual Sheffield Star awards took place on Monday evening at OEC Sheffield in Hillsborough.

Both Owls manager Danny Röhl and captain Barry Bannan received awards on the night.

First up, Bannan scooped the Sheffield Star Player of the Year award.

Star writers Joe Crann and Alex Miller selected the skipper as their standout man for the 2023/24 campaign.

Bannan recently surpassed 400 appearances for the club, and in doing so became only one of 13 players to achieve the incredible milestone figure.

A near ever-present for Wednesday this season, Bannan has made 44 appearances for the Owls in all competition throughout 2023/24.

There was also a special award for the Owls manager on the night.

Röhl was presented as the joint-winner of the Sheffield Star Manager of the Year award.

The gaffer has overseen a stunning turnaround of form, performances and most importantly results since his arrival in S6.

Rooted in the relegation zone for almost the entirety of the season, Röhl has led Wednesday out of the drop zone and now has one final game away at Sunderland where the Owls will be out to secure Championship safety.

Doncaster manager Grant McCann was also recognised in this category.

Congratulations to the gaffer and skipper!
